FRACTAL SIMULATION OF AMORPHOUS ELECTROLESS NiP DEPOSITION

Electroless NiP coating has stochastic nonlinear structure, which was in far from equilibrium and instability state. Fractal theory, an effective method for resolving nonlinear system, was introduced to describe the coating structure quantitatively. Disorker and self-similarity characteristics, which are the two basic features of fractal, were explained in this paper for the first time. The results show that amorphous NiP structure exhibits scale invariance and can be quantitatively characterized by fractal dimension. Based on the fractal principle, a two-dimensional computer simulation on electroless NiP deposition was carried out and it is in agreement with the experimental result. Finally, the fractal dynamics and process of atom growth were investigated. The results show that the atom deposition is reaction-limited growth process.

PRECIPITATION SELECTIVITY AND GROWTH OF PEROVSKITE PHASE FROM TITANIUM BEARING BLAST FURNACE SLAG

The effects of transformation of slag composition and additive agents on the morphology, the precipitation behavior, the crystal growth, and the volume fraction (VF) of perovskite (CaO·TiO2)crystal in the Ti-bearing blast furnace slags were investigated. As the morphology of perovskite is dispersed in molten slags, the crystal growth mechanism of the melting of fine dendrites and the coarsening of large grains exist throughout the solidification of molten slags. With the increase of CaO and Fe2O3 content, VF of perovskite obviously increases. However, high basicity leads to the viscosity of slag, which results in the reduction of the average equivalent diameter (AED). The experimental results showed that the presence of the additives CaF2 and MnO efficiently decreased the viscosity of the slags, and obviously improved the morphology of perovskite and promoted its growth.

Initial Atmospheric Corrosion of Zinc in the Presence of NH4Cl

Influence of NH4Cl on the initial atmospheric corrosion of zinc was investigated via quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) in laboratory at 80%RH and 25℃. The results show that NH4Cl can accelerate the initial corrosion of zinc. Mass gain increase with the exposure time, but mass gain in the later doesn't change obviously due to the formation of the insoluble simonkolleite on zinc surface in the presence of NH4Cl. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to characterize the corrosion products. Zn5Cl2(OH)8·H2O, (NH4)2ZnCl4 and ZnO are the corrosion products on zinc. Brief discussion on the mechanisms of atmospheric corrosion of zinc in the presence of NH4Cl was introduced.
